The very playful Savannah cat! I love the way the encaustic medium invites the sinuousness of cat movement.

Book of Cats

Ooooh the lovely orientals. it seems no matter where they are or how they are positioned it is a pose of the grace of felinity. This is piece is also an encaustic and could easily be in the series of 'MY cat never....

Book of Cats

The technique used for these images is encaustic. A beeswax and resin mix is applied to the gessoed board. The image is painted with acrylic paint. The wax gives the paint a luminous quality. The work is done without being fiddly because that just wrecks it. The bearable lightness of being is the place one works from with encaustic!

book 2 environmental studies- the porch

How do these things start...??? Painting the pillars of the old porch and deciding to attach a hanging basket and the pillar fall over. As it holds the roof...
The old and TADA the new porch and paint.

book 2 environmental studies- the painted wall

This is an old house...1905. The structure is wonderful, solid fir. In this small upstairs bedroom the lathe and plaster walls are thick with decorating ideas manifest- layers of paint and paper. I began scraping it off then realized it was very stuck on. Rule of life #1 -work with what you have.
I applied a coat of high grade primer. a wash of turquoise and various green latexes. The final organic looking texture was acheived using sheets of plastic over the thickly applied sap green final coat.
The rose stencils, symbols of the House are used like the modern new fangled wall paper. It works with the spirit of the place.

book 2 environmental studies- the birthday cake

Each layer of this cake is different...there is an apricot pound cake, double chocolate cake, marble cake, and vanilla butter pound cake. and it did look spectacular when cut!
because it was my darling friend's 60th birthday I thought the child-like decorations and lopsidedness of the cake layers a perfect comment!

book 1 posting a painting a day -Hat G reen

I imagine this would be a slinky stretch jersey dress. That would make this pose possible. There was a program filmed in which professional models tried to imitate the poses of great artworks. There were a many that were impossible. Yet there they are, looking very real. Amazing, huh?

book 1 posting a painting a day -Love Seat

The idea for this little moment in time comes from a party, on the patio (of course, the woman is smoking for heaven's sake!) How we try so hard with the impressing-each-other-business, while the fact of sitting together and talking is completely overlooked. Hmm.

book 1 posting a painting a day- Marri

Marri is a tree and type of wood that is unique to Western Australia, as so many things are, to Australia that is. This tribute to the trees is from a sketch made during a drawing session with the 'drawing ladies', a group of women that invited me into their lives while I was in Australia. That was a few years ago...2006.
