The Glamourous Life Woo Woo Jazz

That part of harmony where every sound blends. The woo sound. Just opens up the meridians in the body, ya?

The Glamourous Life - Big Band

Listening to Christmas Carols on vinyl last night and this morning, courtesy of my versatile 'Mr.Music'
Steve and Eydie, Doris Day, Sammy Davis,
and some big band sounds.

Kinda nostalgic. One must be careful to not be sounding like one of those old people. I mean, this stuff was old people stuff a while ago. yikes.
Just off for the turkey dinner at Grandma's house!
*Merry Christmas!*

The Glamourous Life - Music of the Spheres Snow Crystals

This was a fun piece for Christmas cards.
Winter holiday outside. Skating, skiing, sledding, tobogganing, snowshoe-ing.
And every cold temperature has it's own smell, don't you find?
Crisp, clear, clean smells of winter.

mmm... maybe I will go and make some gingerbread cookies!

The Glamourous Life - Night Club

History of the blues. The very olden days ...smoky bars, prohibition and the expression of life in music.

The behind the scenes perspective in this picture lets the observer look out to the audience observing.

This is a commission piece.

Merry!! Happy!!

to this evenings email of confirmation for New Year's at Swan Bar. (Jazz en Montparnasse) in Paris.
To be perfectly clear... I am going to Paris for New Year's at Swan Bar.

wow. Synchronicity! and gratitude for the friends in the world!

The Glamourous Life - Alto Sax

What is the taste, the color, the smell shape of this sound?
The sensuality of art...in this engagement of the body senses, is the place where the practices of the imagination, meet.
Delicious.

The Glamourous Life - Harmony

or the overall voice of all the instruments calls up a song from you.

The Glamourous Life - G.P. jazz

Make fun hooting noises and wriggle about because one just can't help but move when there is music.

The Glamourous Life - Duo

You nay have noticed the similarity in the color palette on may of the images. These are the colors of the company that commissioned these works as gifts. Here are the colors. The theme is music. (She is so versatile, our artist.) I love commissions like this. There is not time to wait for the muse to show up. I have to get into my mind and drag her to the canvas. LET'S GO. More like warrior painting than the bucolic daubing.

The Glamourous Life - more on the Different Strokes

then the simple line drawing has something to be said for it. There is time... I will keep playing with the ideas.

The Glamourous Life - Diamonds

This is a commissioned piece for the new YMCA downtown Edmonton. It was donated by Dell.

The Glamourous Life - two

Different Strokes for Different Folks - the year end challenge is to paint a portrait from an photo one gets via email.
The top one is a 20 minute painting. The lower one took about 2 hours. They each have their interesting features... . I changed the hand position on the left one... it even looks weird in the photo.
I will finish one of these for tomorrow...or later today now that I look at the time.

The Glamourous Life - Fusion

Back from a refreshing stay at the Delta South Hotel, Fusion is once again available to the larger public for personal purchase!

On this piece...I love how it begins the meander toward the abstract. The shapes begin the morph into other shapes but the idea still holds.

The Glamourous Life - Dance

There are many explanations for the origins and meaning of this dance. That it is to develop muscles that ease the delivery of babies. That it brings up the kundalini energy to make babies. That it brings back the shape of woman before the babies.
It is a dance of creation then. Whatever it is that we create in this dance is life. What ever it is we create in life is this dance.
The movement speaks itself.

The Glamourous Life - Dance 1

Artful body love moving the light through every cell of the body artful loving.

The belly dancing costumes are marvelous, tinkling coins, sparkling sequins, swishes of fabric.
The energy that moves in the room of women practicing this opening of heart is equally as tremendous with the yoga pants and t-shirt as the tasseled skirt.

It is the geometry of dance itself that creates the costume.

The Glamourous Life - Dance 2

This dance of harmonizing, syncopating, rhythming the elements of fire, earth, air and water in the body to the flow of nature. A meditation with sparkles and bells.

The Glamourous Life - Saxophone

Speaking of sexy music... last night was The Canadian Tenors concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Winspear Centre. (My 92 year old grandmother had a wonderful chat with the four tenors before the show.)
90% of the audience is women, the other 10% is husbands. -that is the demographic, from somewhere, about the market of the tenors. And quite verifiable by a quick glance around the venue.
Of course they are good. Very good.

The Glamourous Life - Mauve

You know, if there is an image in the blog that you like and it is sold, all is not lost! You know who the artist is... and she is still on this side of the dirt! Possibilities abound, cavort, wave, and gambol!

The Glamourous Life - Thelonious

It seems to me, apparently, that the solution in music to canvas is triangular shapes. And lime hard candy.

The Glamourous Life -Dream (Jazz)

The singers, like the-bad-guy, in movies, can have the really good clothes. I loved this idea, when clubs had live music, that there was this cohesive look to the musicians, the moves, the style. Gawd.. nostalgia.
My marvelous job...if I don't like what anyone is wearing...I fix it. In my view, for their own sake, of course.

The Glamourous Life - Blue's Guitar

From a busker at twilight in San Francisco. Sometimes more happens in a few seconds of eye contact than we can consciously take in. It may take years to fully appreciate it.

The Glamourous Life - CordoRoy

Sometimes when I see the image a while after I have painted it I remember how easy it is to fall in love. !!!

The Glamourous Life - Trio

This is actually a composite of events of a series of evenings... the singers and bands. Making my own music with paints. Good song huh?

Friday, November 27, 2009

The Glamourous Life - Piano

Into the more classical genre of music, the colors just come up different. And that is always surprising, who actually is doing these paintings?!

Thursday, November 26, 2009

The Glamourous Life - Fire

The boys in the band...can catch fire with any sound system. Evenings at The Commercial Hotel- Live Blue Fire.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

The Glamourous Life -Latino (Jazz)

How many musicians fit on a stage? It is amazing to see, in small venues with the invitation to get on stage, the answer to the question. (It depends on how big the sound gets.)
I love the color wash of this work, it evokes the waves, man.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

The Glamourous Life -Chicago (Jazz)

I must say, I really must say, I just love this one. I am talking about the perspective of the painting and the movement in the lines of it. Which, of course, is inextricably linked with the music.

Form and sound.

Monday, November 23, 2009

The Glamourous Life -Bass (Jazz)

Mmmmm, ya. Double bass or the contrabass is the lowest pitched string instrument. In the jazz the strings are plucked more often than bowed, giving that sweet rich caramel sound to the piece.

The Glamourous Life -Detroit Jazz

Jazz, I think, can only be truly appreciated live. That is the only time that one can feel the fire, the combustion of connection that happens when the music is created like the first music that was ever created. And that, like the love of porridge, never grows old.

Saturday, November 21, 2009

The Glamourous Life -New York Jazz

The band was from New York. Musicians are also glamorized. It must be quite the acting to sing a song for the thousandth time and make it sound like the first. Maybe not! Come to think of it, I can eat porridge with that same alacrity!

The Glamourous Life -on to, in to MUSIC!

The Jazz Series... the research for this series is to go to live music venues, stay up until it is too early, alter reality with beverages (water with lemon) and laugh about pretty much anything. Research and study...strange,hmm? I don't find it that dull.

Sociabili- Tea Series - Spring (detail)

This commission portrait was for two sisters. They told me the wonderful stories of their lives. That is the best part of doing portraits...all the lines mean something.

Sociabili- Tea Series - Dona

This is set in the cafe of an Italian hotel, where the shops around it are designer clothing shops.. DKNY, Chanel, Dior. Which is pretty astounding stuff for one coming from the farm and all.

Sociabili- Tea Series - Green Tea

This is an ongoing series Tea Ladies or Coffee broads- the memorable meeting with a friend, talking about nothing and everything, until it is all sorted. Perhaps another series comes of it -Good Friends.
